Mickael Pietrus Dumps Hyperdunks for Jordan's

Goodbye Hyperdunks, hello Jordan's.

With the NBA Finals less than 24 hours away, Orlando Magic guard Mickael Pietrus is opting for a wardrobe change.

Pietrus, who normally wears Nike's Hyperdunks, a shoe that is endorsed by Kobe Bryant and evidently gives you the ability to leap over speeding Aston Martin's, has decided to switch it up now that he'll be guarding Bryant.

"I have [Kobe shoes] at my house, but I'm going to play with Michael Jordan shoes," Pietrus said.

Bold choice Mr, Pietrus, bold choice indeed. I'm sure that Kobe will be keeping this switch in mind as he uses his Hyperdunks to blow by you and throw it down.

Evidently, the Hyperdunks (which run you $110), are on the cutting edge of basketball shoes. This is from Nike's page on the shoe.

"Jump higher. Cut sharper. React faster. Be more explosive. Fly Wire technology provides the ultimate strength and support while eliminating excess weight. Lunar Foam, a material developed by NASA, is used in the sole to give the shoe excellent shock absorption and a great feel with minimal weight during your long flights."

Who needs that anyway? Will Pietrus need to jump higher, cut sharper and react faster while being more explosive as he guards arguably the best player in the world? Of course not. Especially with how confident he seems in his ability to guard Kobe during the course of the series.

"The only thing I can do is try to minimize his touches in the fourth quarter," Pietrus said. "He's a tremendous player and those guys you cannot stop them. So maybe I can say, 'Hey, stop, Kobe! Yo! Stop!' Maybe that's the only way I can stop him. 'Stop for a minute!'"

Wuss. Be a man. Step up to the plate. This is the Finals, this isn't a beer league softball game. Does he realize that Kobe is the Great White Shark of the NBA and that with this comment that just screams "I fear Kobe Bryant more than grim death," it's the equivalent of throwing a big bucket of chum into the water? Of course not. Kobe's going to drop 50 on this guy just to prove a point. Maybe afterward he should take his Hyperdunks off, sign them and hand them to Pietrus so he can have a souvenir of his first Finals appearance.

Good luck rocking the J's Mickael, you're going to need it...and then some.
